Michael Essien’s wife, Akosua Puni Essien, has taken a big step into football management with he recent business move.
Reports have confirmed that the Mrs. Puni Essien has completed the purchase of third tier team, FC Como.
She bought the club at a Bankruptcy auction for £206,000 (€237,000). But the price doesn’t include the club’s training facility or the Calcio Como brand.

A press statement published on the club’s website read:
“Mrs. Puni Essien and her team will soon be in our city to meet the fans and supporters of the Club.
“In the meantime, they intend to let you know that they are honored to be here, in Como, and become part of a club which boasts 110 years of history,” the release stated.
“The new owner and her team wish to make both the first team and the youth team grow and become an integrated part of the city,” the club said in a statement.
“They will put their efforts into creating conditions to take the team back to Serie B and to develop the club’s young talents to the best of their ability.”
Puni Essien Twitter handle describes her as a “businesswoman, consultant, philanthropist and mother of three lovely kids.”
Como is currently sixth in the standings in the Pro League, Group A, and is fighting for a place in the playoffs. They have had several spells in the Serie A, the longest being from 1984 to 1989.
And thier most recent time in Italy’s top division was in the 2002-03 season.
Meanwhile, Michael Essien, 34, joined Indonesia’s Persib Bandung on Monday, having been without a club since leaving Panathinaikos.
