Ex-Barca president, Joan Laporta, gives one condition for Barcelona’s new coach

There are so many things Barcelona would be considering in the appointment of a new Coach.

Current manager Luis Enrique leaves in three months time, and the different coaches have been looked at. But with the standards raised so high over the years, not winning is not option.

Laporta says new Barcelona coach must follow Cruyff legacy

And according to former Barcelona President Joan Laporta, one thing the new coach much do is “follow Cruyff’s legacy”.

Laporta who was club president from 2003 to 2010, told Journalist David Torras via Marca: “Cruyff is the most important person in Barcelona history.”

“The club should have changed the name of the Camp Nou in his honour but took too long and Ajax have already done so.

“Johan was the inspiration, and his disciples perfected his work.

“Barcelona’s next coach must follow his legacy.”

Johan Cruyff passed away in March 2016, leaving an undying legacy at Barcelona as a player and coach.

Laporta admitted that Cruyff’s guidance even influenced his coaching appointments.

The 54-year-old ex-Barca supremo added: “I chose Rijkaard, Txiki Begiristain [director of football] and Pep Guardiola because Johan told me to.”

“Barcelona have been recognised, loved and admired for the best football that has ever existed because of who he was.”
