In the aftermath of Barcelona’s game against Paris Saint-Germain last Wednesday, Barcelona have made negative headlines.
There has been accusations and counter accusations with PSG making an official complaint to UEFA. But in a turn of events, Barcelona fought back and pointed fingers at Real Madrid.
The Catalans have been critical at the press coverage over referees involved in their games. Barcelona currently trail Real Madrid in the lead and have a good case over referee’s favorable decision towards Madrid.
Europe’s football governing body, UEFA, have been caught in the middle of the crossfire. And the standards of refereeing have been put in bad light.
UEFA’s view on the Barcelona and Real Madrid accusations
UEFA are discontent over the allegations and think such do not benefit football. Rather, the Champions League which is Europe’s biggest event, is getting negative reviews.
Spain’s big two have become the biggest names in the competition over the years. And such claims of bias has done more harm than good to the prestigious tournament. UEFA president ALeksander Ceferin has kept silent on the issue and isn’t expected to speak.
And they are preparing themselves for yet another conspiracy theory on Friday, should the draws favor one team again.
