Here are the projected top six picks.
1st Pick: Tennessee Titans
Projection: OT Laremy Tunsil
Our Comment: Tunsil has been the top projected pick since our first consensus projection in February. He is the best offensive tackle in the draft and the Titans will be looking to protect their franchise quarterback, Marcus Mariota. Tunis would be a good start. CB Jalen Ramsey was gaining steam here, but NFL mock drafts are moving back to Tunsil. Of the 46 NFL mock drafts, 72% project Tunsil at the top overall pick.
2nd Pick: Cleveland Browns
Projection: QB Carson Wentz
Our Comment: Cleveland needs a franchise quarterback badly, after flopping on party bot Johnny Manziel. The fan base itself needs something. Now, they did just sign former Redskins top pick Robert Griffin III. However, Griffin is operating on two surgically repaired knees and struggled as the Redskins attempted to make Griffin more of a pocket passer. They likely won’t pass up on a quarterback here. Another question will be how RG3 handles the situation if he is beat out for the starting job by a rookie quarterback. Cleveland could also selected QB Jared Goff here. Of the 46 NFL mock drafts, 61% project Wentz to Cleveland.
3rd Pick: San Diego Chargers
Projection: CB Jalen Ramsey
Our Comment: This pick will likely depend on the Titans pick at the top. If the Titans go defensive and select Ramsey, then the Chargers will likely take Tunsil. Ramsey is the top projection here. The Chargers need size and play making ability in the secondary and Ramsey fits that definition quite well. Ramsey’s flexibility is amazing as well, as he is widely projected to be the best corner and safety in the draft. Of the 46 NFL mock drafts, 41% project Ramsey to the Chargers.
4th Pick: Dallas Cowboys
Projection: DE Joey Boss
Our Comment: I doubt Jerry Jones use a 5th overall pick on a quarterback when Tony Romo gives theist shot to contend and will likely be around a few more seasons. Bosa has the skills and pedigree to become a double digit sack artist and Dallas needs one. He’s an immediate, impact player and that would be why Dallas would pass up on Wentz or Goff. Of the 46 NFL mock drafts, 39% project Bosa to Dallas.
5th Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars
Projection: LB Myles Jack
Our Comment: Jack suffered a season ending knee injury that ended his college season early last year. That likely won’t scare scouts and the Jaguars. He is one exception, versatile linebacker that will quickly become a player maker in the NFL. Jack is also effective in pass coverage. Of the 46 NFL mock drafts, 41% project Jack to the Jacks.
6th Pick: Baltimore Ravens
Projection: DE DeForest Buckner
Our Comment: The Ravens will either go secondary or defensive front. With Ramsey off the board, they will likely go Buckner to beef up the pass rush.
Washington Redskins: DT Jarren Reed.
Redskins will likely go secondary or defensive front. My bet is, they beef up the interior of the defensive line. A rather large majority of mock drafts project the Redskins to go defensive line. 20% of the updated NFL mocks project that the Redskins will selected the big Alabama defensive tackle. Other popular picks here are DT Andrew Billings, DT Robert Nkemdiche, DE Shaq Lawson, and DE Noah Spence. If they go secondary, the could grab CB Mackenzie Alexander, CB Eli Apple or CB Williams Jackson.
