A New Member of Camp Arrives

KYHillChick and I Spent the better part of yesterday roaming in the backroads between Vandalia, Ohio, and Hamilton. We were in the process of retrieving the newest addition to Deer and Turkey Camp.

The trip started with a trip to Olde English Outfitters just north of Vandalia. I used to get there much more often. It is always well-stocked, and is one of the last survivors of the onslaught of the Walmarts-In-Camo that started cropping up in the 2000s. I bought some powder for an upcoming project. We then drove about 1/3 of the way to the Indiana line before heading south at Brookville.

I would like to introduce y’all to Dolly. She is a 7-month-old alum of the Ohio Bassett Hound Rescue. She was rescued from the dumping ground around Louisville. Hunters frequently dump dogs there that are deemed unable to hunt. She is a Basset/Dauchshund/Beagle mix. She took one sniff of me and decided I was hers. We rode home last night in Dad’s Caddy with KYHillChick in the back seat and the dog resting with her head glued to my arm. Pandora was playing a list of old jazz charts that I’d used have on cassette for when I went cruising on dates, before rolling over to Daniel Ratliff and the Nightsweats. The last hour of sun was spent rolling down an endless series of 2-lane, surrounded by stubble fields, mountains of hay bales, and bored-looking cows.
