The Broncos continue to make moves on the coaching front.
Sean Kugler has told CBS 4’s Lou Romano that he has been hired by the Denver Broncos to be their Offensive Line coach. He interviewed for the job on Tuesday.
Sean Kugler confirms he is the new offensive line coach for the Denver Broncos! Congrats, coach...(they're going to love him in Denver)@UTEPFB @F5_UTEP_MINERS pic.twitter.com/4aOx5UvdoQ— Lou Romano (@RomanoCBS4) January 3, 2018
Kugler was the Offensive line coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2010 to 2012 before accepting the Head Coaching job at UTEP. During his time at Pittsburgh, he was lauded for the job he did through injuries and turnover in the offensive line. He also had a stint as the Buffalo Bills Offensive Line coach as well
Kugler coached at Boise State when former Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady was there and Clady came away impressed with him.
9NEWS talked to Clady about Kugler and when asked if he would be a good hire, Clady replied: “Hell yeah”.
“I had him one year at Boise and I thought he was great as far as motivating guys,’’ said Clady, “Some of the guys I played with didn’t have the greatest talent but I think he elevated the whole unit. He communicates well. One thing I noticed is, he treated us like men. You don’t really get that in college too often.’’
That’s some pretty high praise for Kugler from a former Broncos great left tackle, so this hire is intriguing.
With Kugler hired, the former UTEP coach will likely be banging the table early on day two for one of his former players. That player being former UTEP guard, William Hernandez. He is a 6’3”, 330lb guard who is currently ranked as the 42nd overall player in the 2018 NFL Draft according to CBS Sports, and ranked as the 2nd best guard in the class as of now.
The Broncos may have a need at guard opposite of veteran Ron Leary. Guards Max Garcia and Connor McGovern will compete for the other starting spot this offseason, but neither has been all that great so far in their career. So they could consider drafting Hernandez with his former college coach now on their coaching staff.
