Quarterback’s Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold have declared for the 2018 NFL Draft

Things just got interesting.

The 2018 NFL Draft just got very interesting. Both UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen and USC quarterback Sam Darnold have declared for the 2018 NFL Draft.

It was expected that Rosen would declare but it is a bit of a surprise that Darnold did. Many assumed he would return to school for his junior year and those opinions strengthened after his struggles against Ohio State, but he decided to declare.

This is noteworthy of course because the Denver Broncos have the 5th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and are in serious need of a starting quarterback. There are many rumors connecting the Broncos to soon to be free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins or Heisman winning quarterback Baker Mayfield, but the Broncos may consider one or both of these prospects.

It is expected that these two quarterbacks will go one and two in April’s NFL Draft but a lot can and will change between then and now. So it’s possible one or both may fall to the Broncos at 5.

Rosen has already stated that he would rather play for a good team and get picked later instead of playing for a bad team and getting picked earlier. He is a bit outspoken so that may cause teams to sour on him, but his talent is undeniable. If he makes it past the Browns and Giants then game on.

As for Darnold, he is an interesting prospect. He has good size, an NFL arm, and good athleticism, but he has a funky delivery and probably isn’t ready to start day one. This is why many expected him to go back to school for his senior year. The talent and upside is there, but he needs some work. His stock could skyrocket or dip depending on his Combine and Pro Day workouts.

Then you have the X-Factors in Heisman winner Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen. One or both stocks could skyrocket or plummet in the coming weeks and months. So the exact order these quarterbacks go in will remain a question likely until draft night.

Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and Josh Allen. If the Broncos cannot land a viable starter through free agency, one of these prospects will be the Broncos first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
