John Elway and the Broncos can longer go cheap at quarterback

Les Shapiro said it perfectly on Friday’s The Afternoon Drive on the current state of Denver’s situation.

Les Shapiro nailed the current state of quarterbacks in the NFL.

On Friday’s The Afternoon Drive, Shapiro and Eric Goodman had a great conversation on what the Denver Broncos may or may not do at the position (sign Kirk Cousins or stay away from Wyoming’s Josh Allen).

It’s at that point Shapiro summed it perfectly for Broncos Country. To set the scene: He listed off quarterbacks in the NFL who will make Monopoly money this season and are the furthest thing from elite.

“If you want a quarterback in this league, it’s the cost of doing business,” Shapiro said. “You’re going to have to pay Kirk Cousins between $25 and $30 million a year, probably a signing bonus of somewhere in the $40 and $50 million range. If you want a better quarterback that’s what you have to pay in this league. If you want to go cheap, like the Broncos have done the last couple of years or like some other teams are doing, you are going to get what you pay for. You have to pay good quarterbacks in this league.”
