Jonathan Casillas was signed a year ago by the New York Giants to provide depth and special teams ability. He ended up being far more important to the defense than anticipated, but whether that is a good or bad thing is open to interpretation as the Giants ranked last in the league in yards allowed.

2015 Season in Review

Casillas had the best individual season of his six-year Career with a career-high 88 tackles (second on the Giants), two of his five career sacks, the only interception of his career and five passes defensed. Casillas did all that despite beginning the season as a reserve WILL behind J.T. Thomas and starting only seven games. Casillas ended up playing 672 defensive snaps, and only five Giants played more on defense.

2016 Season Outlook

If Thomas and Devon Kennard are healthy, Casillas' reward for the best statistical season of his career could well be another year penciled in as a reserve, special teamer and perhaps part of the team's nickel package. The soon-to-be 29-year-old should be used to that by now. The Giants are his fourth NFL team (New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots). Casillas has played 78 regular-season games and started only 25, but always seems to find another team that wants his services. He is in the second year of a three-year deal with the Giants.
