College Football Saturday: Bowl season is upon us

Your open thread for the start of Bowl season

Brace yourselves, Bowl Season is coming.

(Game of Thrones references are still cool, right?)

Anyway, Bowl season gets started this afternoon and will continue into the new year. We will be highlighting important games, or games with prospects that fans of the New York Giants might want to watch.

But for now, we’ll just start with a primer for today’s games. None of these have particularly big name schools, but there should be some fun football on today so let’s enjoy it!

Cure Bowl

CBS Sports - 1:30 p.m.

Tulane at Louisiana-Lafayette

New Mexico Bowl

ESPN - 2 p.m.

Utah State at North Texas

Las Vegas Bowl

ABC - 3:30 p.m

Linebacker E.J. Ejiya has the chance to be the first player drafted out of North Texas in 14 years. At 6’3”, 230 pounds, Ejiya has solid size and stellar production. Over the last two seasons he has had 221 tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss, and 16.0 sacks. He isn’t generating much draft buzz, but with a strong bowl game he could grab attention.

Given the Giants’ wealth of late-round picks, he might be a player worth keeping an eye on.

Arizona State at (21) Fresno State

Of today’s games, this one will probably be the one to watch from a scouting perspective. The most interesting prospect, Arizona State wide receiver N’Keal Harry, has decided to skip the bowl game after declaring for the 2019 draft. The 6 foot, 3 inch, 216 pound reciever is considered one of the best in the draft class. He has drawn comparisons to Dez Bryant coming out of college.

Defensive tackle Renell Wren could be interesting to watch today. At 6’4”, 295 pounds, he is a powerful and athletic defensive tackle in a mold which was favored by the Giants last year. He has to work on his technique, but he has the tools to be a disruptive player at the next level.

Camellia Bowl

ESPN - 5:30 p.m.

Georgia Southern at Eastern Michigan

New Orleans Bowl

ESPN - 9 p.m.

Middle Tennessee at Appalachian State

Have fun and enjoy today’s games everyone! And as usual, feel free to use this post to discuss college football, the draft, or this week’s edition of the Big Blue Big Board podcast. This week Dan and I discuss the potential future of the Giants’ tight end position.
