Giants news, 11/16: Nate Solder expecting heavy dose of JPP

Nate Solder (76)

Let’s see what is making news today

Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are some Thursday morning headlines to get your day started.

Nate Solder bracing for JPP

Giants’ left tackle Nate Solder expects to see Jason Pierre-Paul lined up across from him most of the time on Sunday.

“He’s playing well. He’s got tremendous talent and ability. He plays within the system. They’re putting him in a place to be successful. He can run around guys, he can run through guys, he’s got both of those qualities,” Solder said.

Eli: JPP a “great teammate”

Pierre-Paul said Wednesday that aside from GM Dave Gettleman, Manning was the only Giant who reached out to him after he was traded to the Buccaneers.

“You just thank him for being a great teammate, for being a great player. The way he practiced, the way he competed, the way he came back after his injury and fought, and did everything to come back, and be a part of the team, and play well,” Manning said. “You hate to lose guys you win championships with and does everything the right way. That’s the NFL, but I just wanted to say I appreciated him as a person and as a player.”

“Baby steps” with Corey Coleman

Wide receiver/kick returner Corey Coleman got his first action Monday. He had a 51-yard kickoff return, averaged 30.7 yards on three returns and had an 11-yard reception on a third-and-9.

“It’s baby steps. I keep forgetting we brought in Jamon Brown and he played so we’re quickly getting guys in the lineup. You forget that he’s only been here a couple of weeks, too. He had an impact on special teams. He had an impact in the game. That was a big – he caught the curl and that was a big catch so we’ll just keep getting him reps, getting him in there and most of our progressions and he’ll be involved. We’ll just see what kind of production he has,” coach Pat Shurmur said.

“He’ll get in and he’s a very talented young man. I’ve gained a fast appreciation for him. Very energetic, really into it, trying to learn everything, but again, much like RJ McIntosh when he came back he was a little behind. We’re just trying to get him going.”
