The "legal tampering" portion of NFL free agency 2016 continues on Tuesday. Let's get caught up on what has been happening with the New York Giants thus far.

Jason Pierre-Paul

[UPDATED 1:56 p.m. ET:] Pierre-Paul is returning to the Giants on a one-year, $10.5 million deal.

---

A variety of reports indicate that the Giants continue to want Pierre-Paul back on a one-year deal. Dan Graziano of ESPN writes definitively that the Giants "believe he has something to offer, and they want him back."

There have also been reports that other teams are interested in Pierre-Paul, most notably the Arizona Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals will pursue free agents Jason Pierre Paul, William Hayes, Tamba Hali and Mario Williams.

There may even be teams willing to give JPP a multi-year deal.

Other defensive ends

The Giants are most certainly not in 'Pierre-Paul or bust' mode. They have reportedly cast a wide net in terms of seeking players at a position where they currently have only Kerry Wynn and Owamagbe Odighizuwa under contract.

The Giants hosted Charles Johnson, formerly of the Carolina Panthers, for a visit. He came and went without a contract, though that does not mean the Giants won't offer him one. He reportedly moved on for a visit with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Giants remain interested in former Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams, as well. There were conflicting reports about a Williams visit to the Giants. That hasn't happened yet but is expected to. Williams has reportedly told teams he would "sign right away" if he received an offer of $10 million per season.

Speaking of $10 million per season, there was also a report on Monday that Giants' free-agent Robert Ayers is also seeking that much annually on the open market.

The Giants are also expected to be players in a "robust" market for Miami Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon.

The Giants' search for defensive end help on Monday apparently did not end with those big-name players. They also reportedly expressed interest in lower-tier pass rushers Adrian Clayborn of the Atlanta Falcons and William Hayes of the Los Angeles Rams.

Safety market: George Iloka, and more

The Giants need help at this spot, and there was good news and bad here on Monday. The Giants are among teams interested in the hotly sought-after George Iloka of the Cincinnati Bengals. The most accomplished safety on the market, Eric Weddle, does not appear interested in the Giants. Graziano also mentioned that the Giants have shown interest in Rodney McLeod of the Rams, a player we included as a possible fit for the Giants in our overview of free-agent safeties.

Offensive line: Mitchell Schwartz on Giants' radar

We expected the Giants to look for offensive line help in free agency after releasing Will Beatty and Geoff Schwartz. After, all the projected starters on the right side as of now would be the less-than-satisfying duo of John Jerry and Marshall Newhouse. The Giants were reportedly active in reaching out to offensive linemen.

The big name we know about is Mitchell Schwartz, who could be the best right tackle on the market. The Giants are reportedly among his suitors. The other player the Giants have apparently been in contact with is Mike Harris of the Minnesota Vikings, a versatile player who can play guard and both tackle spots.

Cornerback: Patrick Robinson

The Giants Monday reportedly expressed interest in veteran corner Patrick Robinson, probably as a slot guy and not a potential replacement for Prince Amukamara.

Tracker

There is much more to come today, and probably a lot of other things that have happened that we don't know about. One thing to keep in mind: Expressing interest does not necessarily mean a willingness to offer a mega-contract, or even to make an offer. The Giants and other teams will express interest in many players as they look to see where there is common interest and common financial ground.

Follow along here for updates. As we did on Monday, we will post separate stories on rumors or developments that are worthwhile.
