Bobby Hart signs with Cincinnati Bengals

Ex-Giant says he got “labeled” in New York

Former New York Giants offensive lineman Bobby Hart found a new NFL home on Wednesday when he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. In a release from the Bengals announcing the signing, Hart denied being a source of locker room strife, perhaps taking a shot at the Giants in the process.

“It’s frustrating seeing all those things about you that you know are not true,” Hart said. “The main thing I took from (Marvin Lewis) is he’s not just blowing smoke. You can just feel the genuine aspect coming from him. When you get labeled those things, you kind of start to develop a wall, a shield where you block people out and don’t let people in. But when you talk to him and you feel how genuine he is, that wall just comes down. You just listen to him and you can feel he cares.”

Hart was waived/injured by new general manager Dave Gettleman prior to the team’s Week 17 season finale against the Washington Redskins after he reportedly told the team he would rather not play.

That ended a difficult season for the Giants’ 2015 seventh-round pick. Before the season began he told media he felt like the best right tackle in the league. He then suffered through an awful season. He injured an ankle early in the season, played in only 10 games with seven starts, and did not play well. He finished with a Pro Football Focus grade of 37.4, 74th among 81 qualifying tackles.

He was waived/injured by Gettleman in his first real move as GM, and reverted to IR when he cleared waivers. He was officially let go by the Giants a few days ago.
