Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are some Giants-related headlines to start your Friday off right.
Path cleared for Shurmur to hire his top choice OC | SNY
The first domino has fallen in the Giants’ search for an Offensive Coordinator, and that could mean new Giants coach Pat Shurmur could have his top choice - and his completed staff -- in place in a few days.
Kevin Stefanski, the Vikings quarterbacks coach and the man believed to be Shurmur’s top choice for offensive coordinator with the Giants, could now be free to join his old boss in New York after he was passed over by the Vikings for their offensive coordinator job. The Vikings filled that job on Thursday night when they hired Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, according to ESPN.
Stefanski was one of several candidates who had interviewed in Minnesota to take Shurmur’s old position, but the Vikings appeared to be waiting for DeFilippo all along. Presumably the Giants have already requested permission to talk to Stefanski. And now that DeFilippo is in place for them, the Vikings are expected to grant it.

Giants cornerback Eli Apple and Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore were teammates at Ohio State from 2014-15. Both former Buckeyes were first-round picks, with Apple selected by the Giants with the 10th pick in the 2016 draft and Lattimore taken 11th overall by the Saints in 2017.
That’s where the similarities end in their NFL careers.
Apple showed promise during an inconsistent rookie year before a disastrous second season that was plagued by issues on and off the field. Meanwhile, Lattimore emerged as one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, earning a Pro Bowl selection and the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Lots of work to do: The Giants are coming off a disastrous season where they fired their coach and general manager. A lot is going to change for next season, and has already with Pat Shurmur and Dave Gettleman in place of Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese.

When the Giants co-owners and general manager kept on using words like "adult" and "responsible" and "professional" to describe Pat Shurmur, the assumption was that they were taking a not-so-veiled shot at the man he was replacing. That still might be the case.
But maybe they were passing judgment on the other candidates who interviewed for the job.
It sure looks that way now, doesn't it? The word "professional" is not being used much in Indianapolis to describe Josh McDaniels this morning, but "selfish jerk" and "a punk and a loser" are, and those are just the words we can use on a family website.
McDaniels pulled out on the Colts as the team's private jet was warming on the tarmac to bring him to the press conference, deciding at the very last minute to stay in New England. Even if you think that's an acceptable way to treat a future employer -- the ink on the contract was not dry -- what he did to four other coaches was unfair and callous.
