Giants vs. Chiefs halftime score: Giants hold 6-3 lead

Second-half open thread

For everyone who wondered why, exactly, New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo always had a dinner menu sized play sheet, the first half of their game against the Kansas City Chiefs answered some questions.

The Chiefs got the Ball to start the game, and the Giants’ defense played much better than they had the previous two games, quickly getting off the field. An off-sides penalty by Jason Pierre-Paul gave the Chiefs a second chance, but the Giants didn’t responded well.

The Giants’ first drive was a remarkable one, featuring a fake punt to convert on fourth down, a play featuring a three-man offensive line, and a halfback option pass into the endzone. That last play was intercepted, but it was still refreshing to see some creativity and fresh plays from a long-stagnant Giants’ offense.

That drive also featured a pair of nice catches by Travis Rudolph, including this one:

The interception was promptly redeemed by the the Giants, when a hard hit by JPP kept Jason Kelce from securing a shovel pass, resulting in an interception for Damon Harrison.

The Giants had excellent field position and quickly turned that into an Orleans Darkwa touchdown following an 8-yard run by Eli Manning and a pass interference penalty in the end zone. The extra point was missed by Aldrick Rosas, though the wind had a major hand in it, pushing the ball completely across the uprights.

From there the game settled into a contest of off-target passes and traded punts as neither team could settle into a rhythm.

The Giants got the ball back inside of the two-minute warning with a chance to drive and extend their lead, but couldn’t capitalize on a 9-yard run by Wayne Gallman on first down.

The Giants will get the ball to start the second half, deferring after winning the opening coin toss.

Use this as your second-half open thread.
