Giants vs. Seahawks: What the numbers tell us

Here are some numbers to know leading into Week 7

Let’s look at some of the numbers to be aware of heading into Sunday’s Week 7 clash at MetLife Stadium between the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks.

0

That is the number of NFL teams who have made the playoffs after starting a season 0-5.

2

That’s the number of passes caught Sunday by Giants’ wide receivers — one by Roger Lewis Jr. and one by Tavarres King. That number is going to have to go up for the Giants to win games. Per the Giants PR department, that is the fewest catches in a game by Giants’ wide receivers since Sept. 22, 1991, when Mark Ingram and Odessa Turner each had one catch in a 13-10 victory against Cleveland.

3

Where the Giants would select if the 2018 NFL Draft were held today.

128

That’s the number of passing yards Eli Manning had Sunday. The last time he threw for fewer yards than that was Sept. 22, 2013. In a 38-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Manning completed 12-of-23 passes for just 119 yards.

90.2

The Pro Football Focus grade for Eli Apple against the Broncos. That put him on PFF’s Defensive Team of the Week.

2.39

That’s seconds, and it is how quickly Manning is getting rid of the ball on passes this season. Per PFF, that’s third-fastest in the NFL.

14

On Sunday, the Giants wore a “14” sticker on their helmet in honor of Hall of Fame quarterback and Giants record-holder Y.A. Tittle, who passed away last week. The sticker will remain on their helmets for the remainder of the season. Tittle, who retired after the 1964 season, holds the Giants records for most touchdown passes in a game (seven, on Oct. 28, 1962 vs. Washington) and in a season (36 in 1963), and most consecutive games with a touchdown pass (15, from 1962-64).

5.7

That is the yards per carry average this season for Giants’ running back Orleans Darkwa. It places him third in the league behind Alex Collins of the Baltimore Ravens (6.4) and Kareem Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs (5.9). Darkwa has 42 carries for 239 yards this season, both of which are already career highs for the fourth-year back.

320

Manning needs 320 passing yards to become the seventh player in NFL history to reach 50,000 passing yards.

5

That is how many players the Giants have put on injured reserve (Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, Dwayne Harris, J.T. Thomas, Romeo Okwara) through the first seven games. They put six players on IR during the entire 2016 season.
