The popularity of Under Armour is certainly acknowledged with the top player in the NBA — Stephen Curry — and recently, the brand’s momentum recently contributed to the birth of a new Chinese sportswear brand — Uncle Martian — unmistakably a rip-off of the American brand.
The company behind the new label, Tingfei Long Sporting Goods Co. is actually a 25-year-old sports shoe manufacturer, which have been producing its own off-brand sneakers for the domestic market for years.
This new Uncle Martian branch is essentially aimed for a higher-end market as premium-priced sportswear has been trending in China as of late, alongside the growth of more prestigious gym memberships and nutrition brands.
According to Bloomberg, Under Armour launched in China in 2010 with 75 flagship locations built by the end of 2015.
What are your thoughts of this brand, Uncle Martian?
