The Miami Dolphins hit the practice field for the first time during their 2016 training camp on Friday. The day started with the news that five players, running back Arian Foster, cornerback Xavien Howard, running back Damien Williams, linebacker Zach Vigil, and cornerback Bobby McCain, were all placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

The PUP list is used for players who may not be ready to start practicing when camp opens due to an injury. They can be removed from the list at any time during camp, but it also allows the team to maintain the ability to transition the preseason PUP designation to a regular season PUP list, which opens a roster spot but sidelines the player for at least six weeks.

In the five cases above, the Dolphins are believed to be exercising some caution with the players, with no concerns at this point of missing regular season time. The Miami Herald’s Adam Beasley specifically mentioned Foster, the newly signed free agent expected to share playing time with Jay Ajayi this year:
