Reshad Jones on Non-Football Injury list; Dolphins make roster moves as training camp opens

The veterans reported for the Miami Dolphins’ 2017 Training Camp on Wednesday. Roster moves immediately followed.

The first day of Training camp is typically a day of physicals, conditioning, and film work. It also can feature roster moves, and on Wednesday, that is exactly what the day represented for the Miami Dolphins. The team placed safety Reshad Jones and offensive tackle Avery Young on the Non-Football Injury list, while wide receiver Rashawn Scott starts the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

The team also activated two rookies, running back De’Veon Smith and offensive tackle Eric Smith from the PUP list.

Jones, who is coming back this season after suffering a shoulder injury last season that required surgery and led to him missing 10 of the team’s 16 games, sustained an injury recently while doing conditioning work on his own. He is not expected to be out of practice for any extended period of time.

The injury to Young was not disclosed.

Scott sustained a foot injury late in the offseason training program for the Dolphins and now will start training camp on the active/PUP. The active/PUP list is used for players who are not able to start training camp due to a football related injury. The player is not allowed to practice as long as they remain on the list, but the team can remove the player from the list at any time once medical clearance is received. A player who practices at any point during training camp cannot then be added to the active/PUP list.

Like the PUP list, the active/NFI list will prevent Jones and Young from conducting practice with the team, but he will be allowed to attend all team meetings. Both players will conduct rehab work until they are cleared to return to football activities.
