Playing alongside Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh was not enough to offset the salary the Atlanta Falcons were willing to pay free agent defensive tackle Dontari Poe. The Miami Dolphins were the final team to meet with Poe, conducting a nearly 10 hour visit on Wednesday, but, after a night of reviewing the offers he had on the table, which included possible contracts from the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars as well, Poe chose to head to the Falcons on a one-year contract worth $8 million, with the possibility of increasing that to $10 million based on incentives. ESPN first reported the deal.

Miami was thought to be willing to give Poe around a $4 or $5 million contract for one year. The team is content with Suh and Jordan Phillips as the team’s starting defensive tackles, but needs to add depth to the position. Poe, who was a two-time Pro Bowl player for the Kansas City Chiefs, but has seen his production decline the pas two seasons, would have been a great addition to the defensive tackle rotation, but Miami has proven they are willing to stick to a price point and move on to other options if the player does not agree to those terms.

The top defensive tackles still on the free agency market include Johnathan Hankins and Sen’Derrick Marks.
