Dolphins sign Jermon Bushrod

The Miami Dolphins announced on Thursday the signing of guard/tackle Jermon Bushrod. The agreement returns Bushrod, who started all 16 games at right guard last year for the Dolphins, to Miami for a second year. He will likely resume his role as the starter at the position, but the Dolphins could look to Ted Larsen, Anthony Steen, and Kraig Urbik to provide competition.

Miami could still look to sign another offensive lineman in free agency or add one in the Draft next month.

Bushrod joined the Dolphins during the 2016 free agency period, signing a one-year, $1.5 million contract. He played for the Chicago Bears from 2013 through 2015, and the New Orleans Saints from 2007 to 2012. He was originally a 2007 fourth-round pick by the Saints. The 2016 season was the first year Bushrod played guard after spending the first nine years of his career at left tackle, including Pro Bowl selections in 2011 and 2012.

There was speculation that Bushrod was considering retirement, but he will now play at least one more season for the Dolphins.

Details of the contract were not immediately known.

Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi tweeted after the signing, celebrating Bushrod’s return:

Bushrod replied:
