Pittsburgh Steelers Place Offensive Tackle Marcus Gilbert on IR; Activate WR Eli Rogers

The season is over for Steelers offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert, as he’s been placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for the rest of the 2018 season.

He’s not been able to get back on the field, as he’s missed seven consecutive games with a knee injury. Gilbert was already a no-go for Sunday’s huge showdown at home against the Patriots.

Gilbert is under contract through next season, the 30-year-old was a second-round pick of the Steelers in 2011, and became a full-time starter as a rookie.

The team will have to figure out long term what they want to do with Gilbert this offseason, as he’s due $6.8 million as a cap hit in 2019.

Without Gilbert, the team has turned to Matt Fieler at the veterans tackle spot, and while he’s had some issues, for the most part he’s played well enough to not have missed Gilbert as much as one might think.

The team has taken Gilbert’s roster spot and activated WR Eli Rogers off the PUP list to help out at the wide out spot for Sunday’s game.
