Freedom Alliance Asks American Public to Petition NFL Commissioner:
End Protests During National Anthem
Dulles, Virginia – Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon today renewed his request to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to ban anti-American protests by NFL players during the national anthem and called on citizens to share their concerns with the Commissioner.
Kilgannon sent a letter to Goodell urging him, before the season began, to protect the integrity of the national anthem ceremony and prevent anti-American protests by NFL players and personnel. He deemed such demonstrations a deliberate insult to uniformed military personnel who are invited by the NFL to participate in game-day ceremonies.

“The NFL’s opening weekend included too many instances of anti-American sentiment,” Kilgannon said, “and only the Commissioner can put an end to it. These protests reflect poorly on the League he leads as they are being carried out by members of the NFL, who are wearing NFL uniforms, and protesting on an area of the field that is restricted to NFL personnel.”
Kilgannon sent his letter to Goodell on behalf of military personnel and military families which are supported by Freedom Alliance. Freedom Alliance has awarded more than $10 million in college scholarships to the children of military personnel who have sacrificed life or limb for our country. Freedom Alliance also helps injured troops rehabilitate and supports military families struggling to overcome the wounds of war.
“It is simply not right,” Kilgannon stated, “for the NFL to invite young Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines to games to enhance the game-day experience and then permit NFL personnel to insult them and the country they serve. It is not right for the NFL to endorse sentiments which encourage anger and resentment against an entire country. Commissioner Goodell has the authority to correct the situation, and should do so. The ball is in his court.”
“To allow these protests to continue,” Kilgannon said, “is to actively participate in a campaign to undermine faith in, and respect for, our nation and those who serve it. The NFL’s role should be one of bringing us together as a nation, not tearing us apart,” he concluded.
