ISAIAH BRISCOE

On why he plays well close to home …

“I’m just out there Playing, honestly. Every game I go out, try to win and just try to play hard and just try to compete. It’s a plus, playing good at home in front of my fan base and in front of my family.”

On whether they had the energy Calipari wants to see from them …
“Absolutely. We came out—we Focus on ourselves. We came out, we were playing good defense. The other team was making shots, but we kept calm and sooner or later we’ll get into their legs and they’ll get tired and we made our run right before halftime. We did that and once we came out for the second half, we were on our way.”

On whether there was any concern when Hostra was close late in the first half …
“In the game basketball, teams are going to make their run. It happened. We’ve been down before going into the half against UCLA, so being up three we knew that we had to start locking down on defense, get a couple stops and run out in transition.”

On Hofstra …
“They were a good team. We came out playing the way Kentucky plays, not really worried about the other team. We just focus on ourselves, making sure we’re doing what we’re supposed to do and what we practice. We did just that and we came out with the win.”

On how much fun it is to throw alley-oops to Bam Adebayo and what he told him when he missed one …
“I don’t want to tell you what I told him, but I like throwing alley-oops. Yeah, I like throwing alley-oops. I was trying to get Bam a couple alley-oops in the beginning of the game and once I got that steal I just saw him and I left it there for him, but he didn’t convert. He converted on Malik’s though, so…”

On comparing making a good pass with scoring …
“I’m a basketball player, honestly. I make the easy plays, do whatever my team needs me to do to win. If somebody’s open, get them good looks and it makes them more comfortable and let them see shots going. Just making the extra pass and things like that keeps everybody on board and keeps everybody happy. I think that’s something I try to do as a leader of the team and just making sure everybody on the team feels like they’re a part of the team.”

On what it’s like for every game to be the biggest one for opponents …
“Being at Kentucky, it’s a big target on your back. We know we’re going to get every team’s best game, so we Gotta come out and play. We gotta give 110 percent every time because as soon as we slip up, that’s when we can be beaten. We try to take every game as serious as possible and not disrespect any opponent. We respect all of them, but at the end of the day we gotta go out and play basketball.”

On where they are with respect to their goal of winning a title …
“That’s a long way from now. Like you said, we’re still in the beginning of the season. Guys are still getting better. We’re still jelling as a team and we just focus on getting better every day collectively as a team. When March comes around, we’ll focus on March. But right now we’re focused on the next game and just getting better.”

On what playing this game was like knowing UNC and Louisville are next …
“I was focused on playing Hofstra.”

On being outrebounded and committing fouls …
“Tomorrow we’ll be watching film and talk about it, trying to get better. I didn’t know we were outrebounded, but maybe we made more shots. Maybe we weren’t missing as much. But yeah, that’s something we gotta talk to the bigs about, if we were outrebounded. Played a pretty good game”

MALIK MONK

On his biggest area of improvement so far this season …

“Probably just consistency. That’s what Coach Cal talks about all the time. He talks about that every day in practice. Probably consistency.”

On whether there was any concern when Hostra was close late in the first half …
“Basketball is a game of runs, so you’ve just gotta believe it’s going to come. We’ve just gotta keep focused. The energy was good.”

On what it’s like for every game to be the biggest one for opponents …
“We’re going to be every team’s Super Bowl. Coach said that from the jump. So if we don’t bring it, we’re going to get beat. So every game we gotta bring it and be focused in from the jump. Every team is going to bring their best, so we just gotta be prepared.”

On what playing this game was like knowing UNC and Louisville are next …
“We never focus on the next game. We just gotta focus on this one first before we play them.”
