Eagles minicamp practice notes: Carson Wentz struggles - PhillyVoice
Chase Daniel continues to impress. There haven't been many negatives to report on him, and we've already pointed out a number of the positives. Daniel doesn't have much in the way of game tape to learn from, but if I were to compare Daniel in practice vs Mark Sanchez in practice, I would give a heavy edge to Daniel. Today, Daniel hit Jordan Matthews for a TD a strong throw to the back of the end zone. It's becoming clearer why the Eagles paid him the way they did. He has looked legitimately good.
13 observations from the last Eagles practice - BGN
Carson Wentz struggled with some erratic throws. On one play he threw a jump ball into the end zone after avoiding "pressure" and throwing on the run. The ball was just a little too short of tight end M.J. MacFarland. Rookie linebacker Myke Tavarres got jumped and got his hands on the ball but couldn't hold on for the interception. Wentz's worst throw came on the last play of practice. After seeing no one was open, he clutched the ball three times in hesitation before finally throwing a short pass into the end zone. Jordan Hicks jumped in front of the target and came up with the pick. Secondary coach Cory Undlin really enjoyed the interception. "OH S***!"
Minicamp Closes - Iggles Blitz
Chip Kelly did some shuffling between 3 WR/1 TE and 2 WR/2 TE, but he wasn’t very creative with formations or personnel. Trey Burton felt like a player that should have gotten more time, especially considering how the WRs struggled last year. I remember Burton making a play against the Lions.
New Eagles regime highlights problems with Chip Kelly's methods - CSN Philly
The Eagles' offseason program is a wrap, and the big takeaway from minicamps and OTAs wasn't the quarterbacks or any other competition — those things will only begin to sort themselves out come training camp in July. It wasn't really about Doug Pederson, Jim Schwartz and the new coaching staff that's in place, either. In many ways, the story here was still about Chip Kelly, the disgraced head coach Pederson replaces. It's about how unimaginative Kelly's offense truly was. It's about how fundamentally flawed his coaching philosophies were. It's about the juxtaposition of Kelly against not just Pederson, but essentially any other coach in the NFL.
Eagles Wake-Up Call: Wentz’s Learning Curve - Birds 24/7
The first thing you notice when you watch Carson Wentz practice is his size. He’s every bit of the 6-5, 237 pounds he’s listed at — if not more — and he even makes some offensive linemen look small. The second thing is his arm strength and how the ball comes out of his right hand, and you understand why the Eagles fell in love with him during throwing sessions. But the third thing is his spiral, and how the ball wobbles some as it sails down field.
It's early but Eagles' rookie Mills looks as if he'll make an impact - Daily News
TRAINING CAMP is a far-away, shimmering dot on the horizon. The NFL season is as distant in one direction as March Madness is in the other. But right now, the Eagles rookie poised to make the biggest 2016 contribution is . . . Jalen Mills? This is not often the case for someone selected in the seventh round of the draft, but the circumstances are unusual. First, because of the tradeups for quarterback Carson Wentz, who isn't scheduled to start right away, the Birds didn't have a pick between No. 2 overall and No. 79, in the third round, when they took Oregon State guard Isaac Seumalo. But Seumalo couldn't attend OTAs or this week's minicamp because the university is on the quarter system and hasn't held graduation. He might or might not catch up.
Jordan Matthews says Eagles wide receivers need to stop talking about drops - NJ.com
"The main thing is, we have to stop talking about it," Matthews said Thursday as the team broke minicamp and embarked on a six-week hiatus until training camp opens on July 25 at the NovaCare Complex. "I think that's the first thing. The whole thing about [the dropped passes] is that so much of it is mental. The first thing you need to be able to catch the ball is confidence.
Extra Work For Eagles QBs Before Camp - PE.com
"I encourage guys, if they live close to each other, to get together and throw or work out and I think that builds team unity and camaraderie with the guys." While some players will lay low and spend time with their families, a number of players on the Eagles’ offense will be heading to San Diego, California. There, quarterbacks and some of the passing targets will get a chance to work out together and build some chemistry on the field, but building a solid foundation off the field is just as important. "I think it’s great," said Sam Bradford, who said he will be spending a few days in California. "It’s one of those things that I’ve actually done. When I was in St. Louis, we used to get together with the wide receivers and tight ends.
3 rookie QBs aren't dealing with the usual 1st-round expectations in 2016 - SB Nation
Although going from the FCS to the NFL is no small task, the few quarterbacks who have made the jump have all been successes. Wentz joins Joe Flacco, Phil Simms, Doug Williams, Steve McNair and Dan Pastorini as the only six FCS passers since 1970 to get selected in the first round. If Wentz doesn't make the Super Bowl in his career, he'd be the first of that group of six to not get there. Philadelphia fans shouldn't expect that to happen any time soon, though. The Eagles will almost certainly rely on Bradford at quarterback in 2016, and if it's a good year for the oft-injured former No. 1 pick, Bradford may keep his hold on the job in 2017 too. The expectation is that Wentz will have time to learn from the sideline and ease into the fire. Via Brandon Lee Gowton of SB Nation's Eagles blog, Bleeding Green Nation.
