Eagles Injury Report: No real surprises heading into Week 2

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia EaglesEric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Updates on Philadelphia’s injury situation.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced their first official Injury Report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 2 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

There are no real surprises to be noted.

Kamu Grugier-Hill and Jordan Mailata are still not practicing. Grugier-Hill isn’t expected to be able to play until later this month or early next month. Mailata could easily be inactive on game day even when he gets healthy.

Derek Barnett, Fletcher Cox, and Nate Sudfeld were limited participants.

Barnett appeared on the injury report last week but wasn’t in real jeopardy of missing the Eagles’ Week 1 game. I imagine the Eagles are just taking it easy on Barnett and Cox as a precaution. They’ll be ramped up as the week progresses.

Sudfeld’s return to practice is noteworthy. He’s been out ever since breaking his wrist during the Eagles’ first preseason game over a month ago. There’s no need to rush Sudfeld back since Josh McCown is likely going to be the primary backup behind Carson Wentz anyway. Still good to see Studfeld making progress.

New Eagles defensive tackle Akeem Spence practiced with Philly for the first time on Wednesday. He’s wearing No. 66, which isn’t a great look. #JerseyNumberAnalytics.

The Eagles will put out their second of three injury reports leading up to Sunday’s game on Thursday.

Atlanta isn’t dealing with any major injuries heading into Week 2.

Falcons wide receiver Russell Gage is still in the NFL’s mandatory concussion protocol. Gage, a 2018 sixth-round pick, saw two targets in Week 1 before getting injured.
