Giants CB Janoris Jenkins sees key difference in Carson Wentz since Eagles QB suffered torn ACL - NJ.com
Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins has already played Carson Wentz once since the quarterback tore his ACL last December, in 34-13 Eagles route back in Week 16, but sees a key difference in Wentz’s game ahead of Sunday’s rematch at Lincoln Financial Field. ”As far as his mobility and moving, he doesn’t look the same,” Jenkins told NJ Advance Media on Wednesday. “He looks like he’s taking more slides than hits, but he’s just a good quarterback.” Jenkins went on to explain that Wentz’s arm-talent remains unchanged since last season.

Well, here we are. Watching a rudderless team in a lost season. It sucks, but it will also serve as a good opportunity to evaluate how quickly the “brain trust” can adapt going forward. What moves will Howie make with the roster and free agency? How will Doug shake up the coaching staff, or change his approach to game planning? In this way, it’s almost exciting, because we need to see some big moves to fix this mess. With a quarterback like Carson early in his career, the potential is there for the Eagles, and so leadership must act accordingly by moving quickly and decisively during the offseason. I want to see moves that divide the fan base and make headlines, because to me that shows they are willing to buck convention in an effort to win. Conversely, if the offseason is quiet and they appear to be willing to blame everything on their massive injury report without acknowledging the systemic issues behind the team’s struggles... well, we may be in for a long few seasons.

If you’re looking to point fingers for the Eagles’ demise this season, Carson Wentz isn’t where I’d start. Coming off an ACL injury, Wentz looks much the same guy we saw in 2017. His 79.8 overall grade this season is a shade below his 84.9 a season ago although they were about on par before a dismal outing this past weekend in New Orleans.

Still, his calls on these fourth downs drew inquiries to his use of analytics and shook the team’s overall swagger on future fourth downs. Unwavering aggression has been the true Philly Special for the past two seasons. Prior to Sunday, they were at the top in both attempts and conversions on fourth down. But on Sunday, they looked like a team unsure about going for it and when they were sure, it was out of desperation. When a coach is unsure about going for it, it can be reflected by the team’s lack of execution.

At the root of the Eagles’ growing defensive issues is a newfound inability to stop the run. Coming out of London, the Eagles had the No. 4 rush defense in the NFL. They were allowing just 83 rushing yards per game, which went a long way into keeping the Eagles in every game and keeping an undermanned unit afloat. Since then? The Cowboys and Saints both gashed the Eagles for over 170 yards on the ground and for the first time in six years the Eagles allowed 100-yard rushers in back-to-back games. With just two games, the Eagles have dropped from fourth to 12th in rush defense. And trending the wrong way. And here come the Giants and Saquan Barkley, who will most likely try to pound it on the ground against the Eagles.

They appear to be a team that is reeling, questioning itself, going backwards. Defensive back Malcolm Jenkins is calling out his teammates, questioning their willingness to fight. On Big Blue View radio, Michael Kist of BGN Radio told me that the Eagles didn’t appear ready for the 2018 season — and that they don’t appear to have recovered. The Giants (3-7) have won two straight games. They are the team that appears to be figuring things out and getting better. Surprisingly, they are the team that appears to be on the upswing heading into Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET matchup at Lincoln Financial Field.

Chargers place Corey Liuget on IR; claim T.Y. McGill off waivers - Bolts From The Blue
In a corresponding move, the team claimed defensive tackle T.Y. McGill off waivers and added him to the 53 man roster. This is McGill’s second stint with the Chargers this year after being with the team for the first four weeks of the season while Liuget served his suspension. After cutting McGill, the Philadelphia Eagles picked him up and T.Y. played 30 snaps and recorded three tackles. McGill was recently cut by the Eagles to make room to activate Tim Jernigan. Head Coach Anthony Lynn said Darius Philon will be the new starter while the third round pick Justin Jones serves as a backup; T.Y. McGill will now become depth on the Chargers defensive line.

Panic index: Wentz, with the exception of Sunday’s three-interception performance, has been playing at an MVP level. The NFC East is even more of a mess now that Washington is without a starting quarterback. But the Eagles still have road games against the Cowboys and Rams coming up, and they might need a perfect finish to sneak into the playoffs. That seems unlikely, even for the defending champs.
