The Linc - Giants player says Carson Wentz’s mobility “doesn’t look the same”

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 11/22/18.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Giants CB Janoris Jenkins sees key difference in Carson Wentz since Eagles QB suffered torn ACL - NJ.com
Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins has already played Carson Wentz once since the quarterback tore his ACL last December, in 34-13 Eagles route back in Week 16, but sees a key difference in Wentz’s game ahead of Sunday’s rematch at Lincoln Financial Field. ”As far as his mobility and moving, he doesn’t look the same,” Jenkins told NJ Advance Media on Wednesday. “He looks like he’s taking more slides than hits, but he’s just a good quarterback.” Jenkins went on to explain that Wentz’s arm-talent remains unchanged since last season.

What’s Up With Carson and Doug? (Plus A Giants Game Preview) - BGN
Well, here we are. Watching a rudderless team in a lost season. It sucks, but it will also serve as a good opportunity to evaluate how quickly the “brain trust” can adapt going forward. What moves will Howie make with the roster and free agency? How will Doug shake up the coaching staff, or change his approach to game planning? In this way, it’s almost exciting, because we need to see some big moves to fix this mess. With a quarterback like Carson early in his career, the potential is there for the Eagles, and so leadership must act accordingly by moving quickly and decisively during the offseason. I want to see moves that divide the fan base and make headlines, because to me that shows they are willing to buck convention in an effort to win. Conversely, if the offseason is quiet and they appear to be willing to blame everything on their massive injury report without acknowledging the systemic issues behind the team’s struggles... well, we may be in for a long few seasons.

The State of the Eagles - BGN Radio
Michael Kist and Brandon Lee Gowton aren’t thankful for much about this 2018 Eagles’ season.. catch their thoughts on the Mike Groh “challenge” comments, the state of the team, what they feel went wrong and why, along with what their hopes are for the rest of the season! Eagles vs. Giants: Five matchups to watch - PhillyVoice
As we have noted the last few weeks, the Eagles have been horrendous in the first quarter this season, especially compared with 2017. BUT... The one game in which they scored 14 in the first quarter was against the Giants (bolded above), and hey (!), that game looked more like the 2017 season than any of the others. In my opinion, the Eagles should put together a good game plan that they execute well, resulting in points in the first quarter. #Analysis.

WR Golden Tate, Eagles Working Hard To Get Offense In Scoring Flow - PE.com
Two games into his Eagles career, Tate has seven receptions for 67 yards, not exactly the grandiose thoughts that percolated after the Eagles made the trade at the NFL deadline three weeks ago to acquire him from Detroit. It’s coming. Progress is being made. It just takes time. “I really didn’t know what to expect because I had never been traded midseason. It’s a completely new system. I just know that I’m spending a lot of time while I’m here and at home trying to study material. I’m doing a lot of talking with Carson and Groh and Coach Brew (Gunter Brewer, wide receivers coach) trying to get comfortable and speed up this process, because we’ve got time. Just not much time.”

Eagles are down, but Lane Johnson still not buying into ‘Patriot Way’ - ESPN
“Not really,” Johnson said, when asked if the Eagles’ 4-6 start has changed his perspective. “I mean, I’m having fun playing. I’ve been in losing situations before. Everyone is going to come around and make sure to try and rub it in my face. I’ve had worse stuff than a quote come back to my face with these suspensions.” “It felt like I was looking at our team last year from the other sideline,” Johnson said of the Saints. “That’s what it felt like, to be honest. Just the energy they had, the flow they had in the game, how they were playing, it felt like I was looking at a spitting image of our team from last year.”

Ranking all 32 teams’ quarterback play through Week 11 - PFF
If you’re looking to point fingers for the Eagles’ demise this season, Carson Wentz isn’t where I’d start. Coming off an ACL injury, Wentz looks much the same guy we saw in 2017. His 79.8 overall grade this season is a shade below his 84.9 a season ago although they were about on par before a dismal outing this past weekend in New Orleans.

Situational Call of Week 11: Fourth-Down Inconsistency - Head Coach Ranking
To be clear, Pederson did not lose the game because of his inconsistent aggressiveness. Almost nothing was going right for the Eagles. Still, his calls on these fourth downs drew inquiries to his use of analytics and shook the team’s overall swagger on future fourth downs. Unwavering aggression has been the true Philly Special for the past two seasons. Prior to Sunday, they were at the top in both attempts and conversions on fourth down. But on Sunday, they looked like a team unsure about going for it and when they were sure, it was out of desperation. When a coach is unsure about going for it, it can be reflected by the team’s lack of execution.

Eagles’ Mike Groh is struggling with integrating Golden Tate, among other things - Daily News
Offensive coordinator is suffering in comparison with his pedecessor. Frank Reich seems to have gotten the Colts rolling.

Eagles’ once-stout run defense is suddenly a huge problem - NBCSP
At the root of the Eagles’ growing defensive issues is a newfound inability to stop the run. Coming out of London, the Eagles had the No. 4 rush defense in the NFL. They were allowing just 83 rushing yards per game, which went a long way into keeping the Eagles in every game and keeping an undermanned unit afloat. Since then? The Cowboys and Saints both gashed the Eagles for over 170 yards on the ground and for the first time in six years the Eagles allowed 100-yard rushers in back-to-back games. With just two games, the Eagles have dropped from fourth to 12th in rush defense. And trending the wrong way. And here come the Giants and Saquan Barkley, who will most likely try to pound it on the ground against the Eagles.

Ass Team Of The Week: You And The Philadelphia Eagles Will Be Trampled By The Stampede Of Time And Left For Dead - Deadspin
Here is an easy prediction to make: the Philadelphia Eagles are certainly not going to repeat as Super Bowl champions. It’s very unlikely, at this point, that they will even return to the playoffs. Their 4-6 record relays that information plainly enough, but the 48-7 loss they suffered at the hands of the Saints on Sunday adds some important texture to a grim set of facts. It’s certainly never good to give up 48 points in an NFL game, but no team should ever be all that ashamed about getting smashed up by this Saints offense. Such a smashing would not be enough to earn anyone a spot as Ass Team of the Week, even when it’s as smashy and mashy as Sunday’s was. What has brought the Eagles to the butt house is the fact that their offense spent the entire game in a state of constipation.

Giving Thanks By Giving Back - Ertz Family Foundation
Zach and Julie Ertz are so thankful for the love and support the Philadelphia community has shown them over the years that they’re doing whatever they can to give back this holiday season. After being involved in several community programs and learning about the need of local charity organizations over the years, Zach and Julie are using their recently launched Ertz Family Foundation to spread their love and support for the greater Philadelphia area with a special fundraising event. The championship couple will be hosting the ‘City of Love Event and Auction Fundraiser’ on November 29th at Lincoln Financial Field. With this event they hope to unite their teammates, fans, companies and supporters together for a fun-filled evening in the name of charity and giving back.

Giants-Eagles first look: Surprisingly, it’s the Giants on the upswing - Big Blue View
The Eagles (4-6) have won just once in four tries since that Thursday night at MetLife Stadium. They were humiliated 48-7 Sunday by the New Orleans Saints. They appear to be a team that is reeling, questioning itself, going backwards. Defensive back Malcolm Jenkins is calling out his teammates, questioning their willingness to fight. On Big Blue View radio, Michael Kist of BGN Radio told me that the Eagles didn’t appear ready for the 2018 season — and that they don’t appear to have recovered. The Giants (3-7) have won two straight games. They are the team that appears to be figuring things out and getting better. Surprisingly, they are the team that appears to be on the upswing heading into Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET matchup at Lincoln Financial Field.

Chargers place Corey Liuget on IR; claim T.Y. McGill off waivers - Bolts From The Blue
In a corresponding move, the team claimed defensive tackle T.Y. McGill off waivers and added him to the 53 man roster. This is McGill’s second stint with the Chargers this year after being with the team for the first four weeks of the season while Liuget served his suspension. After cutting McGill, the Philadelphia Eagles picked him up and T.Y. played 30 snaps and recorded three tackles. McGill was recently cut by the Eagles to make room to activate Tim Jernigan. Head Coach Anthony Lynn said Darius Philon will be the new starter while the third round pick Justin Jones serves as a backup; T.Y. McGill will now become depth on the Chargers defensive line.

NFL Panic Index 2018: Should the Chiefs be worried about the playoffs? - SB Nation
Panic index: Wentz, with the exception of Sunday’s three-interception performance, has been playing at an MVP level. The NFC East is even more of a mess now that Washington is without a starting quarterback. But the Eagles still have road games against the Cowboys and Rams coming up, and they might need a perfect finish to sneak into the playoffs. That seems unlikely, even for the defending champs.
