Eagles sign former practice squad cornerback to contract

More roster depth.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two roster moves on Tuesday. The team has signed free agent tight end Billy Brown and free agent cornerback De’Vante Bausby.

Both players finished the 2017 season on Philadelphia’s 10-man Practice Squad. The signing of Brown was confirmed on the NFL’s official transaction page last Friday. I already discussed that here.

It’s not a surprise to see Bausby back but there was always a chance he could leave to sign with another team, just like how Josh Andrews recently inked with the Minnesota Vikings.

Bausby first signed with the Eagles back in September, ahead of Philadelphia’s game against the Chiefs. That seemed fitting since Bausby used to play for Kansas City.

There was thought Bausby could make the Chiefs’ final 53-man roster last season. He received some first-team reps during offseason practices. Obviously it didn’t work out for him.

Bausby, 25, is likely a long-shot to make Philadelphia’s roster in 2018 but he could push for a depth job. You can certainly never have too many good corners.

With Bausby and Brown officially in the fold, eight members of the Eagles’ final 10-man practice squad are now under contract in Philadelphia. The aforementioned Andrews chose to sign with the Vikings instead of coming back to Philly. Safety Harold Jones-Quartey is still a free agent.
