Carson Wentz: “I truly believe I’ll be ready for Week 1”

Hear from the Eagles QB.

Carson Wentz broke his media silence. For the first time since suffering a season-ending injury in Week 14 of the 2017 NFL season, Wentz spoke with reporters on Friday afternoon.

It’s not like anyone would expect him to say differently, but it’s still nice to see this. It fits with the reported belief that the Eagles feel confident Wentz is “going to be back well ahead of Week 1.”

It’s worth noting that Wentz was seen walking without a cane at Friday’s practice. He was most recently using that cane to walk during the NFC Championship Game on Sunday evening.

Of course, there’s still a lot of recovery time remaining before the Eagles will know when Wentz is available for sure. Wentz also revealed that in addition to tearing his ACL, he also tore his LCL.

Near the time of the injury, Doug Pederson only confirmed that the ACL was torn.

Wentz is no longer in the current spotlight with the Eagles in the Super Bowl and Nick Foles starting at quarterback. But the 2017 NFL MVP candidate is obviously a huge factor in determining the franchise’s long-term success.

The Eagles should be in no rush to put Wentz on the field if it means jeopardizing his long-term outlook. Hopefully it won’t come to that and he’ll actually be ready for Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season, as the Eagles try to make it back to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row.
