Hear from the Eagles QB.
Carson Wentz broke his media silence. For the first time since suffering a season-ending injury in Week 14 of the 2017 NFL season, Wentz spoke with reporters on Friday afternoon.
Carson Wentz: "I truly believe, my goal is to be ready for Week 1. I’m going to push and do everything I can to be ready. I’m very confident in that.”— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) January 26, 2018
It’s not like anyone would expect him to say differently, but it’s still nice to see this. It fits with the reported belief that the Eagles feel confident Wentz is “going to be back well ahead of Week 1.”
It’s worth noting that Wentz was seen walking without a cane at Friday’s practice. He was most recently using that cane to walk during the NFC Championship Game on Sunday evening.
Of course, there’s still a lot of recovery time remaining before the Eagles will know when Wentz is available for sure. Wentz also revealed that in addition to tearing his ACL, he also tore his LCL.
Wentz spoke to reporters today for the first time since the injury. Said he tore the ACL and LCL, timetable is fluid, but he’s hopeful about Week 1. Won’t change his playing style. Wishes he was still playing, but is thrilled for Foles.— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) January 26, 2018
Near the time of the injury, Doug Pederson only confirmed that the ACL was torn.
Wentz is no longer in the current spotlight with the Eagles in the Super Bowl and Nick Foles starting at quarterback. But the 2017 NFL MVP candidate is obviously a huge factor in determining the franchise’s long-term success.
The Eagles should be in no rush to put Wentz on the field if it means jeopardizing his long-term outlook. Hopefully it won’t come to that and he’ll actually be ready for Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season, as the Eagles try to make it back to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row.
A medical source says it should be safe for Wentz to play by the season opener. He might not be 100 percent by that date, but should be able to play.— Les Bowen (@LesBowen) January 26, 2018
