Robert Griffin III Rumors: Eagles listed as one of NFL teams interested in Washington quarterback

Will RG3 stay in the NFC East?

There wasn't much doubt that Robert Griffin Iii wasn't going to the Redskins this offseason, but Washington president Bruce Allen actually publicly confirmed his impending departure on Tuesday. Allen said he expects several teams to be interested in Griffin. According to a report from NFL media's Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles just might be one of those teams.

Discussed some potential landing spots for RGIII in the wake of Bruce Allen's comments: #Chiefs, #Eagles, #49ers if no Kaep. #Broncos, DAL

Here's the full clip of what Rapoport said about RG3 and the Eagles on NFL Network:

This is hardly the first time the Eagles have been connected to Griffin. There was a report (also from Rapoport) in late December about the Eagles be interested. There was another one in September before the season even started. Both of those rumors emerged when Chip Kelly was head coach, but apparently Doug Pederson might have some interest too.

Personally I wouldn't put too much stock into a rumor like this. Rapoport listed a lot of teams in his tweet for a reason. It's possible that someone's trying to create a market for Griffin's services.

I don't doubt the Eagles might have some level of interest, though. Their quarterback situation is currently unclear. Sam Bradford is going to be a free agent and the team reportedly won't use the franchise tag on him. Mark Sanchez is the only seasoned passer under contract and he can be cut or traded to save cap space so he might be gone. Even if the Eagles bring back Bradford, they can't put all their eggs in one basket. Taking a flier on RG3 could make sense given how special he was as a rookie.

Ultimately, though, I think Griffin will end up elsewhere. The Eagles seem intent on drafting a rookie quarterback and I can't see Griffin, who needs to work on his game, being his mentor.

It will be at least a little interesting to see where Griffin lands. With the Eagles and Cowboys both listed as rumored destinations, maybe he won't be leaving the NFC East.
