Tough loss for Washington.

Washington Redskins defensive lineman Jonathan Allen has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2017 NFL season, according to a report from ESPN. Allen suffered a Lisfranc injury during Washington’s Week 6 game against the 49ers.

Washington selected Allen with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, just a few spots behind Philadelphia’s selection of Derek Barnett. Allen had been starting and playing well at 3-4 defensive end for Washington.

It was originally thought Allen would only miss three-to-four weeks but now his recovery time-frame is clearly longer. This is a significant loss for Washington’s defense. Reaction from our associates over at Hogs Haven:

Over the first third of the season, Allen has made a significant impact, racking up ten total tackles and one sack, having started in all five of the Redskins’ contests.

It is expected that Anthony Lanier, a previously undrafted free agent in his second NFL season will be tasked with filling in for Allen along the D-line. Lanier has not yet suited up for Washington this season, and played in four contests in 2016.

Allen will miss Washington’s game against the Eagles on Monday Night Football this week. Washington is dealing with a number of other injury issues as well.
