Eagles Training Camp Notes: Practice ends with a funny touchdown celebration - BGN
Another strong day for Carson Wentz. The second-year quarterback has had a very good camp overall. One thing I’ve really been impressed with is his deep ball accuracy. There was a ridiculous knock on Wentz’s inability to throw the ball down the field last year (see: AIR YARDS). Anyone who actually watched the games and understood the Eagles’ awful wide receiver situation realized that he didn’t have any legitimate deep options to target. Now that Wentz has some of those, he predictably looks a lot more capable pushing the ball down the field. Today he connected with Nelson Agholor and Torrey Smith for multiple deep touchdowns. The ball was always right on the money.

Agholor has looked strong throughout this offseason, dating back to OTAs, when the Eagles did something somewhat surprising with their fastest player. They moved him to the slot. And almost immediately, you could see the difference. “I’ll tell you, he’s been explosive in there," Pederson said of Agholor at the conclusion of OTAs. "He’s made some big plays for us in there this spring. And his confidence level is high right now. I’m excited to see him grow in that position, and it’s been valuable for him.”

I guess it is possible the Eagles could be considering moving a S to CB. I cannot imagine they would do that with the starters. Jaylen Watkins was drafted as a CB/S tweener. I liked him better at CB. Terrence Brooks played some CB in high school and also at FSU as part of their dime package. Brooks has played well this summer and is a tough, physical player. He seems more like a S to me. Watkins has played some CB in the NFL. He hasn’t exactly lit it up, but he might be a better fit there in Schwartz’s scheme.

Philadelphia Eagles right guard Brandon Brooks has gone up against two of the best in the game on a daily basis. He squares off against defensive tackle Fletcher Cox every day in practice. As a former member of the Houston Texans, Brooks squared off against the great J.J. Watt for four years. Following Wednesday's practice, Brooks was asked if Cox is harder to block than Watt. Brooks kept it real. "To be honest, no," he responded. "J.J. is just a different animal, man. That's no slight to Fletch because Fletch is a damn good player. But, yeah." Cox is being paid J.J. Watt money, though. Watt signed a six-year, $100 million contract with $52 million in guarantees in 2014.

Agholor has excelled throughout the summer, appearing to be a different player than the one who underachieved in recent seasons. That was apparent in Thursday’s session, when he finished practice by beating Rasul Douglas for a deep touchdown pass. Agholor has been tracked by the team as reaching the fastest speed of any player in camp: 21.9 mph. A first-round draft pick in 2015, he arrived in the NFL as a refined route-runner. Agholor needs to show he can consistently catch passes in games. So far, it’s been his best camp yet.

Eagles defensive backs coach Cory Undlin is one of the most vocal members of the staff at training camp, and he was ready to critique rookie corner Rasul Douglas before a play at Thursday's practice. Undlin crouched down, stared at Douglas and waited for the snap. But he didn't get a chance to say much to his young mentee. It was a running play toward Douglas, but moments after the snap, wide receiver Marcus Johnson jolted off the line of scrimmage and pushed Douglas about 10 yards back. That sprung Wendell Smallwood for a 20-yard gain, leaving Undlin without much to say. "Ah," Undlin shouted. "That was just a good block."

21 - Skeptical Eagles fans might have questioned their citizenship in Wentzylvania after the QB's second-half swoon, but those who remain will be rewarded in Wentz's second campaign, thanks to the return of Lane Johnson and a much-needed upgrade in the pass-catching department. Jeffery is among the best in the league, but he's also had just two 16-game seasons in his five-year career. Blount once again played a big role for the Super Bowl champs, registering 1,161 yards and 18 scores (both career bests) in New England, but when it comes to expecting the same level of production from an ex-Patriot, caveat emptor!

Brent Celek is going to savor every rep at practice, treasure every day with his teammates, enjoy every last moment in meetings. Because he knows this could very well be the end. “I’m trying to have the attitude like, 'This could be it for me,'" Celek said after practice Wednesday. "I think when you have that attitude you think differently and you take advantage of things a little bit more. You pay attention to the details a little bit more. I’m just trying to have a different attitude about it."

The Miami Dolphins are facing a tough decision with quarterback Ryan Tannehill after he suffered a knee injury at training camp Thursday. While an initial MRI didn’t show structural damage or any kind of conclusive diagnosis for his knee, it could end up being a season-ending injury.
