So many Roster moves!
On a day when the Eagles cut two recognizable names, the team also brought a former player back to Philadelphia.
The Eagles have signed free agent linebacker Steven Daniels, according an official announcement from the team.
Daniels spent nearly a month on the Eagles’ roster earlier this year. Philadelphia claimed the 2016 seventh-round pick off waivers after Washington cut him in May. He then participated in a couple OTA practices before being cut by the Eagles in early June.
At 5-11, 245 pounds, Daniels has some good size. He’s a physical player who isn’t great in coverage but could fit as a backup middle linebacker in Jim Schwartz’s defense.
Reserve linebackers Don Cherry and Joe Walker have seemingly played well in practice so far this summer but the Eagles still wanted more depth. Perhaps the addition of Daniels is related to the fact Jordan Hicks will be limited in practice following a broken hand injury earlier this summer. Hicks isn’t seriously hurt and he arrived to the NovaCare Complex without a cast on, so there’s nothing major to worry about here.
Here’s a recap of all the roster moves the Eagles have made so far on Wednesday:
OL Allen Barbre - Traded* (Story here)
DE Marcus Smith - Cut
LB Steven Daniels - Signed
This means the Eagles still have one open roster spot. We’ll see what they choose to do with it. Perhaps they’ll add a cornerback. Doug Pederson hinted about such a possibility earlier this week.
