Quintin Mikell no longer part of the Eagles’ front office

So long, Q.

Quintin Mikell is no longer a member of the Eagles’ front office (as first noticed by @igglesnut.) Mikell served as the Eagles’ director of player engagement for the 2016 season. He first returned to Philadelphia as a coaching intern in 2015.

According to Geoff Mosher, Mikell left his job with the Eagles because he wants to be home more in addition to starting his own business.

Mikell played for the Eagles from 2003-2010. He started out as a special teams ace before eventually developing into a good starting safety. He’s arguably one of the most underrated Eagles players in franchise history.

Mikell left the Eagles in free agency to sign with the Rams in 2011. He played there for two seasons before spending his final NFL season with the Panthers in 2013.

Prior to Mikell’s tenure, Chip Kelly installed Marcus Sedberry as the team’s director of player engagement. And before Sedberry it was Eagles legend Harold Carmichael, who is now retired.

If you were curious, here’s a description of what Mikell’s job entailed, in his own words.

“My job is trying to help, not just our young players, but any of our players, develop on and off the field,” said Mikell via NFL Player Engagement. “If it’s a rookie, it’s getting them used to the NFL life, the different stresses and ups and downs you go through; to a guy that’s been in the league for a couple years but still isn’t sure where he is. Maybe he wants to start getting ready for his exit. What should he do? How should he plan? And it goes all the way to the guy who is on the way out and I’m helping them transition to life after the game.’’

Perhaps the Eagles will go with another former player to replace Mikell. Any good suggestions?
