Lukaku names Brazilian as his childhood footballing ‘idol’

Romelu Lukaku has named his Childhood Footballing “idol” – and no, it’s not Didier bloody Drogba.

Manchester United striker Lukaku says he has modelled his game on Brazil forward Adriano, who enjoyed his greatest success at Inter Milan.

The 35-year-old, without a club, spent his entire club career in Brazil and Italy before joining Miami United in 2016, who he left after scoring one goal in one game.

Adriano also scored 27 goals in 48 caps for Brazil, and was one of the most well-regarded young strikers of his generation.

Lukaku says he has “the same qualities” as him.

“I have a good relationship with people from Brazil,” he told ESPN Brasil. “And I really like Brazilian players.

“When I was little, Adriano was my great idol. Because when I was little, I had the same qualities as him.

“Very strong, shooting with the left was the same. I hope he’s going to play again because he’s a good player. For me he’s an idol. I like him a lot.”
