Ex-Florida Coach Dan Mullen Joining Lake Oconee Academy as Offensive Coordinator

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Dawg Sports has learned that former Florida Gators head Coach Dan Mullen has found his next coaching role.

Mullen will be joining the staff of Lake Oconee Academy as the offensive coordinator under head coach Patrick Stewart. Before joining the high-school ranks, Stewart got his start in the coaching profession as a defensive assistant at Georgia under Kirby Smart.

Lake Oconee Academy is a charter school in Greensboro. Mullen has owned a house in the area for many years, and sources told Dawg Sports that the Mullen family has relocated to the area.

Bringing Mullen on board is a big coup for a school that is in the process of building its football program from scratch and fielding its first varsity team. Mullen’s tenure in Gainesville ended with his firing last November after his fourth Florida team started the season with a 5-6 record. Despite that, he has long been viewed as one of the best offensive minds in college football and oversaw the developments of NFL quarterbacks Alex Smith, Dak Prescott and Kyle Trask.

In addition to his coaching duties, Mullen may also work as a television analyst covering college football during the 2022 season.
