Georgia steps out of conference to take on Kansas State

Bulldogs head to Manhatten Kansas to take on the Wildcats

Georgia heads to Manhattan, Kansas on Saturday where they will take on Kansas State as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

The Bulldogs have lost four of their last five overall slipping to 12-7 and 3-5 in conference play. Georgia suffered an 80-77 loss in double overtime to Arkansas this past Tuesday. Yante Maten led the way with 26 points and 15 rebounds while Turtle Jackson snapped out of a shooting slump knocking down five 3-pointers. However a late 3-pointer by Daryl Macon proved to be the difference.

Georgia will face a stiff test against the Wildcats who have won three straight and are 15-5 on the season. Kansas State defeated Baylor 90-83 on Monday behind 34 points from Barry Brown. Brown leads the team in scoring at 17.8 per game and is shooting 47 percent from the floor this season. Junior forward Dean Wade added 24 points in the win over the Bears and is averaging 16 points and a team-best 6.4 rebounds.

The Bulldogs’ losing skid has hurt their NCAA Tournament chances. They have slipped all the way to 10th in the SEC in RPI per ESPN.com and need to get things turned around in a hurry. After Saturday’s game, Georgia returns home to face Florida before two straight road games at Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Kansas State is 54th in RPI and Saturday’s game is another opportunity for a true road.
