Georgia extends early offer to freshman instate QB

The Georgia Bulldog coaching staff is still waiting on 2017 QB Jake Fromm to sign, and for 2018 signal caller Trevor Lawrence to make his college choice. But that doesn't mean the staff hasn't been keeping one eye further out into the future. How far?

The staff just extended a verbal offer to Marietta freshman quarterback Harrison Bailey. Yes, a prospect who likely won't enroll until January 2020.

Before you bemoan the ever-accelerating recruiting calendar though, there's something you need to know: Bailey actually has the goods. Last week against Kennesaw Mointain he went 29 of 43 for 457 yards and 4 touchdowns. That shattered the Marietta records for yards, attempts, and completions set by a senior Blue Devil in 1990: some guy named Eric Zeier.

Bailey also has offers already from Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, LSU, Miamai, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. At 6’3 and 195 pounds the 14 year old already has good size for a college prospect and will only mature over the next three years. Look, Bailey has a lot of developing to do before he’s ready to play college football. Heck, he hasn’t even finished his first season of high school football. But believe me, there’s a reasonable chance that this young man could end up being a top 10 player in his class when the time comes, and will definitely be one to keep an eye on in the future.

That last one carried all of 50 yards in the air. Again, freshman.

Another interesting thing to bear in mind? Georgia has suddenly become QB Central. For years the state rarely produced more than one or two SEC-caliber quarterbacks per season. But the state is now annually cranking out players at or near the top of the position. UGA commit Jake Fromm and Stanford commit Davis Mills have been ranked the #1 pro-style QB in the country by various services for 2017. Trevor Lawrence may be not only the top QB but the top overall player for the class of 2018. Until later . . .
