Other winter sports in NY
It’s no secret that both New York football teams aren’t going well – at the time of writing, the New York Jets are 5-8 and New York Giants 2-11. There wasn’t much hope for the Jets this year anyway, with many analysts thinking that they might struggle to win a game… but the Giants? Oh boy. They started the season 0-5 and with it their entire receiving corps also went down with season ending injuries. The cherry on this otherwise burnt cake? Benching 2x Super Bowl winner (both against Tom Brady) Eli Manning to make way for a dude called Geno Smith; for those of you who know something about football, you can probably understand why this isn’t a great move.
Well, there’s always basketball and ever since the Knicks decided to offload Carmelo Anthony, they’ve been looking good. Kristaps Porzingis seems to be the shining light for the team right now so if you ever find yourself at a Knicks game, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the big Latvian as he runs up and down the court.
Knicks finish off the half with a 13 point lead over the nets. Kristaps showing flashes with 13 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists
Similarly, the Brooklyn Nets have put together a young roster with a point to prove – not likely to win many games, but they are well-coached and play in Barclays Center, which is a relatively new arena. It’s probably a good chance for some cheap tickets and a good experience overall.
And, speaking of Carmelo Anthony – you can see his former College team Syracuse play during winter in NYC, too.
If you’re looking on the ice-hockey side of things – which I personally think is one of the better American spectator sports – then the NHL hockey NY teams New York Rangers and New York Islanders are your best bet. Both teams are middle of the pack of the league but sitting in a good position in the Metropolitan division.
'We are RANGERSTOWN' @madisonsquaregarden will be pumping on Thursday night!! #wearerangerstown #nyr #nyrangers
For this writer, there’s nothing better than watching sport with a beer and the longest hot dog you can buy and when you go to a basketball or ice-hockey match, you’re treated with both.
SWIAM has all the information you need when it comes to sport in New York City so make sure you read up, and enjoy the Big Apple this winter!
