When I woke up yesterday and found out that Russell Westbrook signed a three year contract extension to stay in OKC, I was literally the happiest I have been this summer. After Kevin Durant bolted out of OKC for the Golden State Warriors, I have been worried that Westbrook was leaving. I heard and even wrote some blogs about some possible destinations for Westbrook.
"There's nowhere else I would rather be than Oklahoma City," Westbrook said at a news conference to announce the deal. "You guys have basically raised me. I've been here since I was 18, 19 years old. You guys did nothing but great things for me. Through the good and the bad, you guys supported me through it all, and I appreciate it. Definitely when I had the opportunity to be able to be loyal to you guys, that's the No. 1 option. Loyalty is something that I stand by."
I watched the Press Conference and really enjoyed it. Sam Presti is such a good general manager and a even better person. I think it was so genuine how Westbrook acted during his press conference. My favorite thing that Russell said though was, "why wait if you know where you want to be." It was at that very moment that I realized how excited I am for this upcoming season.
