Bears Decide Not to Re-sign Matt Forte

In a move that many saw coming throughout the entire 2015 season, according to Forte himself, the Bears won’t be re-signing him this offseason.

Now 30-years-old, Forte has been one of the best Running backs in the NFL since he entered the league, but very few, if any, have had the workload he’s had the past eight years.

He’s consistently been at or near 300 total touches and it was evident that it was going to catch up with him sooner or later. In 2015, Forte missed three games and it became clear that a younger, cheaper Jeremy Langford is the best option for the Bears going forward.

So, what can Fantasy owners expect from Langford in 2016? Well, I’m ridiculously high on him and certainly think he has top-5 running back potential.

While Langford didn’t necessarily wow anyone running the ball, which Forte doesn’t really do either, he made enough plays and was efficient in the running game to be a valuable fantasy asset in Forte’s absence.

As long as John Fox doesn’t do anything weird, and as long as Langford gets the touches that Forte is leaving behind, he could have a big fantasy season.

Obviously, there’s a lot of offseason left, and Langford’s value is going to be tied to how well the Bears improve the offensive line and whether or not Alshon Jeffery returns. But for now, I’m very high on him.
