Cricket Ireland are in the final stages of preparation for their 2016 2020 Campaign, and will be hoping to reach the latter stages by excelling in their preliminary games starting this week.
Ireland start with a game against Oman on Wednesday the 9th in Dharmasala before taking on Bangladesh (11th), and the Netherlands (13th). Cricket has seen a huge surge in popularity in Ireland in recent years and many cricket fans will be hoping that Ireland can make the most of this weeks chances and earn a shot at some of the worlds top teams when the tournament starts in earnest on March 15th.
Ireland will take encouragement from previous shock wins against the likes of Pakistan in 2007 and long serving captain William Porterfield will no doubt be confident of some more big results for the boys in green. Ireland will also welcome back Boyd Rankin after a four year absence and hope that he will have a big part to play in any potential successes.
March 15th also sees the start of the Women’s Icc Twenty 20 which runs parallel to the men’s tournament and the Irish Women’s team will play games against New Zealand (18th), Sri Lanka (17th), South Africa (23rd), and finally Australia (26th). Having earned a place in this years tournament via the qualifiers in Thailand last year captain Isobel Joyce will be hoping to lead Ireland to glory in India.
