Auburn Baseball Mid-Week Recap, 14-15 March 2017: vs UAB and Jacksonville State

It was a good week for Auburn Baseball.

Midweek games have given the Tigers fits at times over the last few seasons. This week's games against in-state foes UAB and Jacksonville State definitely did not give the Tigers too much trouble, though.

March 14th: 4-0 Auburn

The Tigers picked up their NCAA-leading 7th shutout of the season against the Blazers from Birmingham thanks to performances by Andrew Mitchell, Gabe Klobosits, and Ryan Watson. Mitchell pitched one inning after dealing with tendinitis a few weeks back. Klobosits also left a game with an issue last weekend against Lipscomb but returned in this one with a fantastic performance.

Auburn scored 2  in the 1st  inning thanks to a 2-run Blake Logan double. They added 2 more in the 6th with RBIs by Luke Jarvis and Conor Davis to bring the total to 4-0. That was all Auburn needed thanks to the pitching effort. Klobosits allowed 6 hits and 1 Walk with 3 strikeouts in his 6 innings pitched. Mitchell allowed no hits, no walks, and had one strikeout in his single inning. Ryan Watson allowed no hits, no walks, and had 2 strikeouts to close out the game in 2 innings.

March 15th vs JSU: 10-1 Auburn

The Gamecocks got on the board first in this one 1-0 in the early going. Auburn tied things up shortly afterward and added one more in the 4th on a Daniel Robert solo home run before blowing things open in the bottom of the 5th with 7 runs to take a 9-1 lead. Two of them were on bases loaded walks with a sac fly and two RBI singles adding the runs. They added one more in the 7th for insurance (because after Friday, any run is insurance), and that was the final margin of 10-1.

Four pitchers combined their efforts for this win, today. Christian Camacho started the game and pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 run. He struck out 4 and gave up no walks. Calvin Coker, Elliot Anderson, and Daniel Sprinkle finished off the game allowing only 3 hits.

Next Up:

The SEC slate starts with the 5th ranked Florida Gators coming to town. Thankfully, Auburn is going into that series with some momentum at the plate and on the mound during this 4-game winning streak. Game 1 is set for 6:00 pm Central and will be streamed on WatchESPN.
