The Tigers add a non-conference opponent for a few years from now.
Auburn's non-conference schedule for the next few years is fleshing out a bit with word today that the Tigers will Face Western Kentucky in 2022.

This will be the Hilltoppers' 3rd visit to the Plains to face the Tigers. They join Penn State as the only currently scheduled 2022 football games.
This marks a bit of a shift in scheduling for Auburn. Over the last few years, the OOC schedule has largely consisted of Sun Belt Teams. With Tulane in 2019 (AAC), Southern Miss in 2018 and 2020 (AAC), and now Western Kentucky in 2022 (CUSA), we see Auburn reaching into the other Group of 5 Conferences for opponents. They do still have Sun Belt teams Georgia Southern (2017) and Georgia State (2021) on the schedule, though.
The Hilltoppers are no joke. They've become an air raid powerhouse in Conference USA and finished with an 11-3 record, won the Conference USA Championship, and defeated Memphis in the Boca Raton Bowl last season. They gave Alabama some fits at times early in their game last season before the Tide pulled away. It's extremely pointless to speculate on what these two teams will be like in that season, though. Western Kentucky just lost their head coach to Purdue this last offseason and if they're any good over the next few years they'll probably go through at least one more. Who knows what Auburn's situation will be in five years, too.
This game will take place 24 September 2022 the very next week following the 17 September game against Penn State. With the way those dates are set up, it's fair to say there will be at least one game - if not two - prior to these tilts.
