Away Day Nostaliga Corner: Man United away

Man United away: 2004/2005

I was fortunate, very fortunate, to get a ticket for this game. Don't get me wrong, i do alot of away games, but it is virtually impossible to get a ticket for an away derby, unless you're a corporate, or if you go to every away game for donkeys years and get thousands of loyalty points. (I have 2400+ by the way!) Something I would love to do, but dont quite have the time, money, or friends to do it with. Most of my friends only do the local aways anyway.

So to get a ticket for the derby last season was quite a feat. I managed to acquire the ticket through a 'contant' at face value, and eagerly awaited the game. The day of the game went wrong, badly wrong, when I was called in to work the morning of the game, after asking for 4 weeks if I could have the day off. Incompetent arseholes. Never work for Tesco. Especially with a manager who is a raging drug crazed alcoholic!

Anyway, due to actually COMING from Manchester, I finished work at 1pm, and was able to be in Manchester, via a detour to my house to get changed, for quarter to two where I met up with my friends who were drinking in Manchester, and not going to the game. haha. Anyway, a few beers later I caught a taxi to the ground.

What was I expecting? Well, I thought the atmosphere would be good, but I didnt know just how good it would be. Constantly singing from start to finish as the boys did us proud with a resolute defensive performance. Stephen Jordan made an immense clearance off the line when all hope looked lost. We came away with a 0-0 draw, which was celebrated with much gusto, as a point at Old Trafford is not to be sniffed at.

As a first derby away game, I loved it. It was a surreal experience, and made me more determinded to make these games a regular occurance in the future. The way the 3,000 City fans spent half time singing 'Oh when the blues...' non-stop was spine tinglingly amazing, and the abuse dished out to the plastic reds was funny to see. It was great seeing the United fans all pissed off after the game, as 'liddle ol ciddy' had got a result against them, again.

Build a bonfire, build a bonfire
Its uniteds favourite song
Why dont we know one just as scary
Where the fuck did we go wrong?

Magic day, good result, and another ground to tick off my list.
