Sandals and summer is a match made in Heaven. Unfortunately, most sandals aren’t for the needs of act are Merrell’s Hydro Hikers are the perfect all-round summer footwear for active children. They combine the support and protection of a runner with the all the benefits of a sandal. Add in a flexible sole that grips.
Comfort & Fit
My six year old daughter found the Hydro Hiker comfortable right out of the box. She wore them every day on a recent 9 day trip down South and never complained about any tightness, chafing or discomfort of any kind, despite doing lots of walking. In terms of it, I would say the sandal runs true to size with a foot bed that is on the wide end of the scale.
Versatility is really the Hydro Hiker’s strength. Unlike most open toe sandals or flip flops, the covered toe and closed design protect small feet and provide plenty of support for activities such as running, climbing, riding bikes or kicking around a soccer ball. As the name “Hydro” implies, they are also ideal for water-based activities be it a trip to the beach, kayaking, or just running around the local splash pad.
Kids run around a lot. Because of that, they also fall a lot. A shoe with good grip can help to reduce slips an falls. So far, the Hydro Hiker’s traction has been excellent. Merrell’s “Select GRIP” tread has provided my daughter with great footing, even on wet concrete.
This is a highly versatile and very well made sandal that your child can wear all day, every day throughout the summer months. For that reason, it represents a very good value.
