Ashgold the Champions of the Premier League explained they refused to receive their Super Cup Match runners-up medals due to some reasons.
The management of Ashgold clears that their refusal to receive their runners-up medals at the end of last Sunday’s Super Cup Match was as a result of a failure by the organizers.
The source reveals that the organizers didn’t provide the appropriate number of medals for the playing body and technical handlers. So, the AshantiGold team walked off the presentation ceremony after losing 0-1 to Medeama at the Accra Sports Stadium.
It was a boycott that many believed to bring the competition into disrepute. After this the management protested some decisions of referee David Laryea for perceived injustice.
Kofi Yawson the Communications Director of Ashgold explains that they never said they won’t accept the medal, they only registered their dissatisfaction towards the organizers, as the medals were fewer than the total number of players and officials they registered for the game.
He added that the organizers informed them of only 18 medals instead of the 25 medals, they were expecting and so of what essence is it if one climbs the ladder and receive no medal, and combined with their disappointment with officiating they were not in the mood to negotiate.
Now the Ashgold team will play against Algerian side, MO Bejaia, in their CAF Champions League preliminary round at Obuasi.
