Arsenal have spent most of the summer chasing the signature of Atletico Madrid and France striker Antoine Griezmann, according to reports in the British media.
Squawka are claiming that Arsenal were prepared to offer £60m for the Euro 2016 star as Arsene Wenger looked to complete one of the big deals of the summer transfer window.
The same story states that the Gunners were hopeful of entering into negotiations with the Champions League runners-up despite Griezmann signing a new deal which saw his contract release clause rise to £86.2m.
The articles goes on to claim that Wenger had hoped Diego Costa’s previously touted return to Atletico would leave Diego Simeone and los Rojiblancos open to the prospect of selling the France star.

Wenger has been heavily criticised for his failure to significantly strengthen the Arsenal squad this summer after the Gunners finished in second place in the Premier League table last season.
The Arsenal manager signed Switzerland international Granit Xhaka in a £33m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach at the start of the summer before Wenger added Japanese forward Takuma Asano and Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding to his squad.
