Arsene Wenger has admitted that Olivier Giroud is a doubt for Arsenal’s trip to Watford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The France international has been limited to 12 minutes from the substitute’s bench so far this season as Arsenal sought to find a winner in last weekend’s goalless draw with reigning Premier League champions Leicester City.
The Gunners have failed to win their opening two games of the new Premier League season without Giroud in their starting line-up after a 0-0 draw with Leicester was preceded by a 4-3 defeat by Liverpool.
When the Arsenal manager was asked whether the 29-year-old centre-forward would start against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon in his pre-match media conference at London Colney on Friday morning, Wenger responded:
“Giroud is still a little fraction behind physically.”
Giroud scored 16 times in 38 Premier League appearances for the north London side last season as the Gunners finished in second place in the table behind champions Leicester City.
