Martin Keown Delivers Blunt Verdict On Jurgen Klopp’s Signings

Martin Keown believes Jurgen Klopp’s summer signings have failed to strengthen his Liverpool squad.

The Reds have made a disappointing start to the 2016/17 Premier League Campaign after the top-four contenders suffered a 2-0 loss to promoted side Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend.

Liverpool have already conceded six times in two Premier League games after a thrilling 4-3 victory over Arsenal saw Theo Walcott, Calum Chambers and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain beat Simon Mignolet.

Klopp started his summer spending spree with the £4.7m signing of Loris Karius from Bundesliga outfit Mainz before the Reds manager sealed a £30m deal for Southampton forward Sadio Mane.

Liverpool have also signed Estonia captain Ragnar Klavan and Alex Manninger from German club Augsburg, while Klopp brought in Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum in a £25m deal from Newcastle United.

The Reds’s summer business has also included Serbian playmaker Marko Grujic and Schalke centre-half Joel Matip, who both agreed deals earlier this year.

Former Arsenal defender Keown isn’t overly impressed with Klopp’s summer signings after their mixed start to the new Premier League campaign.

“From what I have seen, the players Klopp has brought in are not better than the ones who have left,” Keown told BBC Sport.
